Irrespectively, however, of public opinion

in Great Britain, the Imperial Government, too, is of course

desirous of putting a speedy end to a state of affairs

capable of involving other countries in disasters, such as

exists in Shanghai at the moment, and they will, of course,

continue to use their best efforts to attain this object.
